John 1:22-44 Devotional

When John the Baptist sees Jesus coming toward him, he does not give a long explanation. John just says, "Look, here is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world." That word "look" matters.  John is inviting us the people to stop what we are doing and really see who Jesus is. Calling Jesus, the Lamb of God, should stir something deep in our hearts. We know about the lamb's sacrifice and the cost of forgiveness. We know the lamb was innocent, it did not fight back, and was offered so we  could live. So now, we look at the Lamb who meets us with mercy instead of condemnation, love instead of fear, and grace instead of exhaustion. And as we look, we remember the good news that what we could not remove on our own, Jesus the Lamb has already taken away.
