John 4:5-29 Devotional "Giving Up Superiority"

Jesus broke away the social barriers of His time by speaking to a Samaritan in public, who others, including the disciples, thought would tarnish Jesus's reputation. But Jesus brought His message of grace and freedom to the Samaritan woman, knowing that in her humility, she would hear and respond, while the religious people were too busy and self-important to hear. God does not care about any of the ways we make ourselves feel superior to others, like the Jews did to the Samaritans. If we let go of our status symbols and judgmental attitudes, we too can hear Jesus's call more clearly and respond more faithfully like the Samaritan woman.
