Matthew 4:12-23 Devotional

Jesus calls ordinary people. He called fishermen, Simon, Andrew, James, and John, people not studying theology or seeking greatness, but people in their daily, ordinary lives, casting nets and mending boats. Jesus meets them in their daily labor and redefines their purpose: "Follow me, and I will make you fish for people." Discipleship begins with availability, not expertise. So, where might Jesus be stepping into the "dark" or overlooked places of our lives, or community? What nets, what habits, or routines might Jesus be asking us to leave behind in order to follow Him more fully? Friends, we are the ordinary people of today, and Jesus is calling us.

God bless.
